Sonnet: On the Turning Point
Meredith L. Patterson

I never meant this light to cause you pain.
It was intended only to reflect
The brilliance that you brought into my realm;
A foolish Beast I am not to expect
That I would miss some fatal flaw. My vain

Desire was that this gift might overwhelm
Your wish to leave this place. But if the light
Reminds you overmuch of home, then let
That be a lesson to me. Make your flight
If 'tis your will.
                  But let me feel the calm

Within this Refuge for a moment yet;
If you let go, remain forever free,
And I shall be content not to forget
That for one moment you were here with me.
