Bastille Day Picnic and my new Chemise

Yesterday I wore my Chemise a la Reine for a picnic with other 18th century ladies for Bastille Day!  We had a lovely day. We had the park mostly to ourself. Even though it was probably 95 degrees, we had lots of beautifully prepared food and drinks and dappled shade. We even had several sets of lovely picnic gear.

Isn’t this idyllic?

My new dress! I also completed my “easy Lunardi” hat started at Costume College last year. You can read more about how I made my Chemise a la Reine dress here.

I’m wearing my modified Lioness wig.

There was a cute couple getting married in the park that day. The bride wanted a photo with us!

What a beautiful day for a picnic in beautiful period attire! So much delightful work went into making your day successful – joy to you! But, I have to wonder – what were the temps where you are. We were in 90 plus degree weather in South Jersey today and I don’t know that I’d want so many layers PLUS a wig on in such humid heat!
    Gah!
    Joy!

Kathy, it was probably 95 degrees! It’s very hot this week! The white dress is like gauze, very airy, but yes, having a corset and a think skirt and a wig and hat on was difficult! We drank lots of fluids and I didn’t wear my hat the whole time. :)

What an utterly fabulous thing to do! I salute your creativity and joi de vivre! What part of the country are you in?

I love the costumes and the idea but it seems the ladies dressed like the ones in your photos should be running for their lives on Bastille Day?? 😉

You ladies look fabulous! Is this an annual event? May I participate next year?

Hi Sara! We just did it to hang out with friends and have an excuse to dress up. It’s not really an event. :)
