Beauty and the Beast Belle Broadway Ballgown Completed

Belle Yellow Ballgown Costume

I’m so glad! I finally finished my dream costume, Belle’s yellow ballgown from Beauty and the Beast,… more specifically, inspired by the Broadway version. I’ve wanted to make this since I was in high school! My plan was to have it done by cherry blossom season this year, but our weather has been really erratic. The blossoms kept waiting longer to bloom and then the past two weekends it’s been raining pretty hard! But yesterday we got a break in the weather and I got to go out and get photos of my gown! (Thanks again, Annie!)

You can read more about how I made the gown on my Belle Ballgown costume page.
As a refresher, this is roughly what Belle’s Broadway version looks like. It’s actually pretty hard to get shots of the Broadway version, but I’ve collected a few over the years and from programs.

GORGEOUS!! Such lovely photos too, the location is just so lovely. I adore that dress so much (Belle is my favorite princess), and you did a great job on it.

Pretty! And dark brunette suits you! 😉

That was so fast!! I could’ve sworn you just started it! It looks great!

I’m especially enamored with the top, I love all the detail you’ve managed to replicate/add. I finally saw the broadway show last year and it was fantastic, I like that you picked that dress since you don’t see it as much.

Hi Aimee! I was wondering what size hoop skirt you are using with this dress? How many hoops does it have and what is the bottom circumference? I love the size and shape 🙂 This turned out beautifully and you make a beautiful Belle!

Thanks for the tip! I really love the way you did the bodice. It’s lovely!

I love your dress. I have to make one for a concert. Is your bodice attached to the skirt. Can you send me pictures of the back opening.

Ta

Hi, thanks! The bodice is not attached to the skirt. There are carrier hooks that make sure the bodice doesn’t shift around too much. (hooks on the skirt and the bodice) but they are separate. I’m sorry, but I don’t have time to take a photo of the back of the bodice right now. But you can see it here: http://aimeemajor.com/wp/wp-content/gallery/belleballgown/belle14.jpg It’s grommeted like a corset and laces up the back with gold sturdy ribbon. There is a modesty panel that goes underneath the lacing area. Goodluck!

[…] Aimee Major Steinberger created this beautiful Broadway Belle dress. Notice the sheer overlay on the hooped skirt and all of the details she included in the bodice. I love her dainty white gloves! […]
