I made the twins (and their friend Kiki) adorable Princess in Black costumes!
NOTE: I do NOT take costuming commissions. Please do not ask to buy these or for me to make you one, sorry! I just don’t have time.
A while back, my sweet friend Miriam got the twins autographed versions of Shannon Hale’s The Princess in Black series. These books are SO cute and well drawn and the story is about a lovely pink Princess Magnolia who is secretly the hero Princess in Black who fights monsters! The twins love heros AND princesses so this book was perfect for them. (You can find this book series on Amazon HERE and there is a 3rd volume coming out soon!) When I asked them what they wanted for Christmas, they said Princess in Black costumes over and over again and even told Santa that! No official Princess in Black costumes exist, but Mommy is magic and can sew!
I used Simplicity 2563 or 2817 (Snow White / Cinderella) pattern as the starting point. I used stash black, grey and white bridal satin and some pink cotton for the bodice lining. The sleeves on the pattern were already were perfect. I leveled off the waist front line of the bodice and changed the collar line and drafted a grey collar piece. I appliqued on a grey belt and white flower to the bodice. For the short skirt of the bodice, I measured the bodice’s waist size and then made it larger to have a slightly gathered/eased skirt into the bodice and cut the scallop front shape. The back of the bodice closes with a zipper. The cape is attached with large snaps under the collar in the back. The shorts, mask (amazon) and gloves (amazon) were store bought to save time and mommy’s sanity!
All three girls love the costumes!
