60’s Floral Maternity Dress

When I found out I was pregnant, I became curious about vintage and historical maternity patterns. Some of them were really cute! For Costume College 2012 I made this floral dress out of an actual 1968 vintage maternity pattern, Simplicity 7558. The crazy floral fabric, zipper and button blanks were already in my stash. I even had a vintage gold brooch to wear with it.

The pattern has a cute idea of taking in the sides a bit in a tuck to allow the dress to fit you at various stages of pregnancy, but since I was already going to be wearing it 7 months pregnant with twins, I just made the tuck at a the largest size.

My friend Judy did my hair up in a big bouffant with one of my korean velcro “bumpit” like things.
