I made this cute retro-inspired Colette Hawthorn dress! I used a sweet embroidered strawberry linen I had in my stash for many years (originally from Joann’s.) For the white fabric I cut up one of my husband’s old business shirts to make the collar and cuffs. Of course, as with any dress you make yourself, it was great to be able to tailor the dress to be just the right length for me and fit my size perfectly. All the details on the dress ended up making it time consuming but I like the finished product.
I enjoyed using Colette’s pattern. It was really well explained and I learned some new techniques.
I changed the collar shape a little since I’ve always wanted a dress with a multiple scallop collar. I embroidered a little strawberry on the collar.

This was my first time using Hug Snug Rayon Seam Binding! I got mine at fabric.com. I thought it would be fun to use a bright color. It took a while to do all those seams, but the result is nice, especially with this type of linen which would probably fray a bit around the edges over time.
I added some side pockets for fun!
One of the new things I learned was this menswear inspired sleeve placket!

Amazing inspiring job! I just bought the pattern and was looking for examples of how other people made it when I found your post. I love all the clever personalizations (I’m not there yet as a sewstress, but someday!). I have some cutie pie strawberry buttons in my sewing basket and now I’m thinking I might do a red polkadot with those cute little buttons 🙂 Thanks for sharing your beautiful work!
