Debut: Michelle’s 30th Birthday Party (end of the roaring 20’s)
Pattern used: McCall 2757 from PastPatterns. (The pattern’s original cost was 45 cents in 1921!)
The pattern doesn’t really have instructions, but if you’ve sewn a fair amount you can figure it out, it’s not really complex. Although there’s no real saying how you’re supposed to attach or close the faux under blouse. I had to fudge a few things to get it wearable. It was fun to use an actual reproduction 1920’s pattern, I got a little more feel for the history.
The fabric is a golden yellow with a scale pattern on it from Michael Levine’s. I cut out the dragon circles from some silk I got in Beijing, China, and appliquéd it in various places on the dress. Right now there are only three appliqués, but I’d like to add several more before I wear it again.
In some photos I’m wearing a vintage fur collar. The hair is a wig and the feathers and fascinators are from Forever 21, necklace from etsy.
