Blue Riding Habit

Late 18th Century Light Blue Riding Habit

Debut: 12th Night Tam O’Shanter Dinner Jan 2012

I’d been wanting to make a riding habit for a while and this one looked relatively simple given my short time frame to a winter dinner my friends were planning. My inspiration was this plate, “Gallerie des Modes et Costumes Français. 56e Cahier de Costumes François, 50e Suite d’Habillemens à la mode en 1787. nnn.349 “Veste retroussée à l’Amazone…””  I used the Reconstructing History’s 1730’s-60’s Riding Jacking Pattern. The petticoat was drafted using my teal zone front petticoat as a base. The faux fur stole I made and is not attached.

I hadn’t made something in wool before, I not only really enjoyed working with it (so squishy!) but it was also really comfortable to wear, breathed really well. I was expecting to be hot, but I really wasn’t at all.
