Debut: Anime Los Angeles 2014
I’ve been in love with Sakizou’s artwork for a while and finally decided to make one of her “sweets girl” designs, Mont Blanc. Mont Blanc is a French pastry which is also popular in Japan. The top of costume is based heavily on Sakizou’s original drawing, but since the drawing didn’t show the bottom of the outfit, I improvised some.
The corset I drafted from scratch. It has a front gold busk closure and a lace up back with a modesty panel.
The shoes were various faux sweets, lace and such hot glued to shoes. The gloves, I cut apart two pairs of gloves, one off white and one brown and assembled them together and added lace and pearls. The hose are Haenuli/Snow Field.
The bolero was adapted from a bolero pattern plus larger puffy sleeves with a tulle insert to keep them puffy. The bolero is embroidered on the sleeves and the back with a Mont Blanc pastry design that I drew out and my friend A.J. digitized for me. It was then machine embroidered.
The wig started as a curly “Lioness” wig which I teased out into a fro to give it body and then mounded it up to form a large 18th-century-esque pouf. I used matching hair extensions to make the extra loops and smooth swoops using Jewel-It to make them firm/styled and then attaching them to the wig after they were dry. The Mont Blanc pastry hat on the top of my wig is half of one of those clear plastic Christmas ornaments covered in pleated velvet and faux icing/sweets bits from etsy.
