Welp… what can I say, I love furry babes. I really LOVED Chrono Trigger. Definitely one of my all-time favorite games. It was just charming!! Ayla was always my favorite from Chrono Trigger cause she was such a leader and she kicked BUTT while still being feminine! I loved it when she bit people. 🙂

Basically this costume consisted of a plaster-fabric molded over a water-bottle club. (I used dixie cups to mold the two little “wood” branches… ha ha!) It worked pretty well… but it was slightly too flexible, so the latex paint chipped when I dropped the club once. Bummer. If I do this again, I’ll make it a bit sturdier… but for my first attempt using plaster-fabric strips, it turned out pretty good! Probably should have painted the club a darker color though.

The rest of the costume was just some really nifty fur, and an extremely well-teased blonde wig! 🙂 A decent number of people actually recognized me which was surprising, in that… well Chrono Trigger is kinda old, and Ayla was not one of the main-main characters. (that and, I did kinda just look like a generic furry babe.)

FUN though! I was 6 feet of “ayla kick ass!”. I wish I’d been able to work out more before wearing it though so I could be a more buff Ayla.

ithout going over my head! So for this I was able to focus on making a simple pattern fit just how I wanted, and embellishing it (which I knew I could do well.)

The dress is actually two separate dresses. One is a jumper with sleeves (the underdress), and the top dress is a jumper without sleeves. For the overdress (the sleeveless part) I added a train to the bottom. The overdress is a super soft stretch velvet of some kind, while the underdress is a type of silk. The top part of the sleeves has an overlay of silver beads that I hand beaded in a floral pattern that matches the one in the movie. (I found a transcription of this pattern on alleycatscratch.com, which is a great resource for LOTR fans!)

Both dresses have intricate silver lace trim. I made the trim by taking three layers of lace and sewing them together, and then adding bugle beads along the edges, and hand sewing in bugle beads and opaly sequins inside the lace.

Right now the dress is about 90% finished as some of the silver trim still needs to be beaded.

The bottom silver part of the sleeves are a basic U-shaped cut, overlapped to make that nice petal look. The fabric itself was bought that way (with the silver leaves painted on it!).
