I had been aware of Super Dollfies for several months after starting to collect Gene dolls in 2001. One of the Gene customizing sites I found had this beautiful doll on it. I assumed it was an art doll or some sort of unattainable doll… a month or so later I discovered it was a Super Dollfie.
Since then I’ve been enthralled with how personable the dolls are. I couldn’t believe that there was such a doll with such a beautiful style of face that also was so customizable!
I spent long hours staring at many customized dolls trying to decide which face had the most appeal to me and the most potential! (Actually, at this time there were only maybe 4-6 choices…) SD13 girl had just come out, but most of all I loved SD Nana. I got her through Crescent-Shop! (At the time, the only way for international customers to get a SD!)
I renamed my Nana-type Super Dollfie, Alita, becuase at the time while I was waiting for her to come from Japan I read the manga, Battle Angel Alita for the first time. Alita, the comic character, seemed so much like a Super Dollfie to me. Ito kept replacing her parts. That’s when I decided to name my doll, Alita, since I knew she would probably take on many incarnations and many different parts while I had her.
I painted Alita several times myself and did full sanding and wiring and blushing on her myself as well. Eventually I got her repainted by Aris and she now permanently uses Volks Zouk no 08 eyes. Alita now looks like this.
